It seems many people think it is definitely about time that reality singing competition show, American Idol, takes it leave from primetime television and although Simon Cowell left years ago he is looking back fondly after starting out as an original judge.

“We had a blast! Me, Paula, Randy, Ryan – and not forgetting Brian. Thanks to the fans we were able to make some great shows and found some amazing artists. Fox took a risk on a brand new show and I want to thank them for giving us the opportunity. They really were great times,” he said in a statement to People magazine.

Fox revealed on Monday May 11 that American Idol would come to an end after it concludes its 15th season next year and although Cowell, 55, is well known as the meanest and most critical judge on TV, it seems he really did enjoy his time on the show from 2002-2010.

Cowell, who went on to star in another competition show The X Factor, also took to his Twitter to reflect on American Idol, writing, “Looking back at my time on American Idol we had a great time. We found great artists. Had fun. And to America. Thank you. It was a blast.”
