World famous rapper Snoop Dogg was temporarily detained after performing in Sweden on Saturday, July 25 and, in a series of Instagram videos, he claims his arrest was due to racial profiling.
“I don’t know what country we in but they be sweatin’ us,” he said in the first of the posts in which he is very clearly frustrated by the experience after being arrested on suspicion of illegal drug use.
In another video, the 43-year-old seems to be in the back of a police car and he states, “I ain’t did nothing. All I did was came to this country and did a concert, and now I got to go to the police station for nothing.” In the third video he swears he is never coming back to Sweden after the incident.
Police spokesman Christer Nordstrom commented on the case saying that there were several officers around him during the show and, according to one police officer, “Snoop Dogg showed signs of drug influence, so he was taken to the police station for a test. After about an hour he was free to go.” He also added, contrary to Snoop’s beliefs, that “[t]his had nothing to do with racism at all.”
According to Nordstrom, it will take up to two weeks for the results of the drug test to come back and, if it comes back positive, the case will go to a prosecutor. A minor drug offense usually only results in a fine.
In one of his last posts about the incident, Snoop wrote, “2 all my sweden fans U can blame YA police dept for never seeing me again in your beautiful country … And I’m still smokin.”
