Stephen Collins, 67, is best known for his role as the righteous and wholesome TV dad and pastor, Eric Camden, on the show 7th Heaven. However multiple recent news reports indicate that Collins has confessed to child molestation.
An edited version, to protect victim identities, of the confession was posted on TMZ.com and was apparently taped in secret by the actor’s wife, Faye Grant, at a therapy session from 2012.
Grant filed for divorce from Collins in 2012, the same year he admitted to her he had molested or exposed himself to multiple under-age girls in previous years.
Grant was told it is legal to tape someone’s private sessions or conversations if it produces evidence that the person has committed a possible felony.
In the conversation, Collins’ confession seems to involve at least three separate incidences and he answers very openly to some of the details of the contact with the young girls. The victims all seem to be between 11 and 13 at the time of the crime and in the tape Collins says he tried to apologize to one of the girls years later.
As an actor, Collins has worked with several under-age actors although there are no reports any of those children were victims.
The NYPD are now investigating after coming into possession of the tape.
