The new book is titled Midnight Sun and is set for release on August 4, 2020. The new novel will mirror the events of the first Twilight book, but this time told from the perspective of Edward Cullen who was portrayed by Robert Pattinson in the films.
“It’s a crazy time right now and I wasn’t sure if this was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have been waiting for just so, so long,” said Meyers during a segment on Monday’s episode of Good Morning America. “It didn’t seem fair to make you wait anymore. Sorry about the bad timing. Hopefully this book can be a distraction from the real world. I’m so excited to finally be able to share it with you.”
Of course, longtime fans of the epic vampire drama series will know that Midnight Sun has been a long time coming for the author. All the way back in 2008, Meyer first teased the book and released a partial draft of the first chapter on her website. “There is so much more to his side of the story than there is to Bella’s in that first chapter,” Meyer wrote on her website at the time. “His side of Bella’s first day at Forks High School is a hundred times more exciting than her own.”
By November 2011, Meyer’s Twilight book series had sold over 120 million copies worldwide. In 2008, the first book was adapted into a feature film starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. The remaining films were released in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 and together have grossed over $3.3 billion in worldwide receipts.
