The Joe Exotic craze continues on!
Surviving Joe Exotic is coming to Animal Planet later this month which will focus less on Joe Exotic himself and more about the animals held at his Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park.
The new documentary is set to air on Saturday, July 25 at 10 p.m. ET. It aims to highlight the creatures, such as visually impaired tigers Kryxis and Kadira, whose vision was surgically restored at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Indiana after being rescued from Exotic’s zoo.
The documentary will also share stories about the animals who found new homes, like two lions who were left traumatized by the pain of inbreeding and were relocated to the Wildcat Ridge Sanctuary in Oregon.
The special will also feature one of Joe Exotic’s last interviews from 2018, which was just months before he was jailed on murder-for-hire charges. The never-seen-before footage was originally recorded at his zoo for Animal Planet’s Wolves and Warriors.
Those who loved the original Tiger King cast from Netflix will be happy to know some of these members will be returning for the Animal Planet special, including Saff Saffery, who lost an arm to one of Exotic’s tigers.
Aside from this new Animal Planet special, there are multiple Tiger King spinoffs in the works at the moment. Nicolas Cage is set to portray Joe Exotic in a new TV series, while Kate McKinnon is set to star as Carole Baskin in a separate miniseries. ID also announced in April that they would be releasing a limited docuseries focusing on the disappearance of Baskin’s husband.
