On Friday, Taylor Swift released a new festive song, “Christmas Tree Farm,” just in time for the holiday season. In addition to dropping the song, she also unveiled a music video that included plenty of old home footage of Swift and her family.
The new soon-to-be-a-hit Christmas song pays tribute to her childhood memories growing up on a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania. This isn’t the first time that the modern pop star has used home video footage in her music videos – she included the home footage in her Fearless song “The Best Day,” a homage to her mother.
On Thursday, the singer-songwriter announced the Christmas song in a video on Good Morning America.
“Hey, I know this is pretty wild, but I’ve just written a Christmas song,” Swift said. “I feel like it’s weird to just wait a year to put it out.” The singer then turned to her cats and asked for their advice on whether or not she should release the song this year or next year, as expected, the cats weren’t that helpful.
Later on, she posted the video on her social media accounts, and wrote, “When in doubt, ask the itty bitty pretty kitty committee. When they shun you with silence, ambivalence, and judgmental brush offs… just put the song out anyway. NEW XMAS SONG AND VIDEO (made from home videos ) OUT TONIGHT.”
The festive song is one of the many new projects for Swift, who will also star in the film adaption of Cats as Bombalurina. The singer has also recently released another song, “Beautiful Ghosts,” which she wrote with famous composer Andrew Lloyd Webber for the film. Lastly, the Swift will be featured in an upcoming documentary about her life, Taylor Swift: Miss Americana, which is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
