The former Partridge Family star David Cassidy has revealed that he is battling dementia.

Cassidy spoke out to People on Monday, February 20 where he explained that he has been suffering from memory loss after many became concerned following a strange performance from the singer on Saturday, February 18.

“I was in denial, but part of me always knew this was coming,” he told the publication while also revealing that his grandfather and mother both battled dementia. While on stage in California on Saturday, the 66-year-old appeared to be slurring his words, forgetting his lyrics and at one point almost fell off stage in a video that was put on TMZ.

Cassidy even told the crowd that he was retiring and his final concert would be the following night. Due to Cassidy’s past battles with drugs and alcohol and trips to rehab, his onstage behavior had fans worried that he was intoxicated, but as he explained it was because of his dementia. Cassidy also confirmed to People that he is in fact retiring in order to focus on his health. “I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions. I want to love. I want to enjoy my life.”
