A new The Princess Diaries movie is reportedly in the works at Disney!
The Hollywood Reporter shared on Tuesday that Disney is developing a third The Princess Diaries film which will be a continuation of the beloved Anne Hathaway films. It hasn’t been confirmed if Hathaway has signed on yet. Aadrita Mukerji, who is known for writing for shows such as Supergirl and Reacher, is reportedly writing the screenplay.
Hathaway first stepped into the role of Mia Thermopolis in the original 2001 The Princess Diaries film. The films are based on the book series by Meg Cabot.
The film follows Thermopolis, a normal American high school student whose life is turned upside down when she learns she’s the princess of Genovia. Thermopolis then must undergo royal training from her grandmother Queen Clarisse Renaldi, played by Julie Andrews.
When Andrews was asked if she would return to the role earlier this year, she replied: “I might just be a little too old a granny for it, I don’t know.” She added, “It depends on what the story is, and if they can come up with something, that would be wonderful. But if not, there will be other things.”
