On Tuesday February 24, only two days after actress Lupita Nyong’o stunned in yet another amazing red carpet dress with a $150,000 Calvin Klein dress adorned with pearls, the dress was stolen.

It turns out the expensive number turned the heads of not only those interested in fashion, but those interested in a quick dollar as it was taken right out of the star’s hotel room at the London West Hollywood. Police instantly began going over hotel surveillance footage from the time frame when Nyong’o was out of her room but before getting any leads, the dress was returned to the hotel a few days later on February 27.

Gossip site TMZ reported they got a phone call from the thief who said he took the dress after noticing her hotel room door was open and no one was inside, however when he took two pearls off the dress and had them appraised, he was told they weren’t real.

He then proceeded to tell TMZ that he left the dress and garment bag stuffed into a trash bag in a bathroom under the sink in the hotel and returned it and told the site (who informed police) about it “because he wanted the world to know “Hollywood’s fake bullsh-t.”

Now the guy is getting off of the crime scot-free as Calvin Klein, who own the dress and only loaned it to Nyong’o, just want the case closed apparently telling law enforcement in L.A. that they have “no interest in pursuing the case” now that the dress has been returned.

Although it is not reported if the people at Calvin Klein gave a more detailed answer about not going after the thief, speculation reveals it is because they don’t want the fact that the supposedly real pearl dress is actually a fake to make headlines.
