Tom Hanks was not a fan of Ricky Gervais’ opening speech at the 2020 Golden Globes.
The host opened the award show ceremony with a monologue that shamed Hollywood and referenced many controversies that happened over the past year.
The comedian received plenty of nervous laughter and groans after he talked about how the entire room should be worried about Ronan Farrow, a journalist well-known for his reporting on the Harvey Weinstein scandal. However, the host didn’t stop with just that.
“It was a big year for movies. Surviving R. Kelly, Leaving Neverland, The Two Popes,” Gervais joked. The camera then cut to Tom Hanks, who appeared uncomfortable.
This is the fifth time the comedian has hosted the Golden Globes, and fans of his comedy know that he likes to push boundaries, but Hanks’ expression was still a highlight of the night.
