For quite some time, The CW has been creating hype for its upcoming Arrowverse crossover “Crisis On Infinite Earths,” and one of the biggest cameos has just been revealed.
Tom Welling is set to return as Clark Kent/Superman for the upcoming crossover after starring in the role for 10 seasons from 2001 to 2011.
With Welling’s Smallville Superman included, there are now three different actors who will portray the iconic superhero in the epic crossover.
“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it,” crossover executive producer Marc Guggenheim said in a statement. “So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”
The five-hour crossover event which includes Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman will also see Tyler Hoechlin from Supergirl reprising his role as Superman, meanwhile DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’s Brandon Routh, who also played Superman in the film Superman Returns, will also appear as another version of the Man of Steel.
Since Smallville ended, Welling has appeared in several series and shows, but nothing has been more iconic than his turn as Clark Kent in Smallville.
“Crisis on Infinite Earths” kicks off with Supergirl on Sunday, Dec. 8, followed by Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9 and The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10. After the winter hiatus, the crossover resumes on Tuesday, Jan. 14 with Arrow at 8 p.m. and concludes with Legends of Tomorrow at 9 p.m.
