Tracy Morgan Settles Lawsuit With Wal-Mart After Fatal Crash

Tracy Morgan and Wal-Mart have come to an “amicable” settlement, stemming from the traffic accident on June 7, 2014.

The accident occurred when a Wal-Mart truck hit the back of the limo van carrying Morgan and others including his friend and fellow comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, who died as a result if the crash. Morgan was left with severe injuries including head trauma, a broken leg and broken ribs.

For those who are curious, there’s good news and bad news related to this settlement. The bad news: neither side has disclosed the settlement amount, yet anyone could safely presume the amount is substantial. We’re nosy. What else needs to be said?

On to the good news: now that some of the money issues have been settled, Tracy will be making his first public appearance in a year. On Monday, June 1st, Tracy will sit down with Matt Lauer on The Today Show, and discuss all kinds of things. No doubt, it will be entertaining–because that’s what Tracy Morgan does–but it should also be quite sobering and insightful.

Tracy will make his appearance with an attorney, and that’ll likely be to protect Tracy’s future interests. He probably won’t be allowed to answer many questions about the accident itself, nor will he be able to disclose information on the settlement amount, but he’ll be able to talk about his recovery and what he hopes to do next.

Sadly, it’s the opinion of this writer that Tracy has been forced to stay out of the public eye until the case was settled. That was a huge aspect of the lawsuit–that Tracy might never perform again, which creates for his impressive livelihood.

If the suit had been settled before the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special, Tracy might have made an appearance. Again, that’s a presumption based on the nature of the lawsuit.

Bottom line, it’ll be good to see Tracy again.
