A True Blood reboot is in the works and is in its early stages of development!
The news of a reboot comes six years after True Blood aired its seventh and final season. The reboot will be on the HBO network but is still in its very early planning stage for putting the idea into motion. HBO declined to comment on the reboot at this time.
According to TV Line, the reboot is being spearheaded by Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The reboot is reportedly going to be a new interpretation of the show, which was originally based on author Charlaine Harris’s The Southern Vampire Mysteries. Writer and executive producer of NOS4A2, Jami O’Brien, is also working on the project.
The script that was pitched from Aguirre-Sacasa and O’Brien has been written, however, no final deals have formally been signed at this time. Reportedly, Alan Ball, the original showrunner of True Blood, is in the midst of joining the project as an executive producer.
The project is too early in development to confirm whether any of the original cast will return to their roles in the reboot. Anna Paquin played the starring role of Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic half-fairy waitress who falls in love with a vampire, Bill Compton, who is played by Stephen Moyer.
True Blood premiered in 2008 and aired its series finale in 2014.
