Walking the red carpet is a big deal for celebrities who primp, preen and prepare well in advance for a big event, making sure they look as good as possible, knowing full well everything from top to toe is going to analyzed by critics.

Back in October, Renee Zellweger dominated headlines after showing up for her first red carpet appearance in months looking like a completely different person.

More recently, actress Uma Thurman received a similar reaction to her red carpet appearance on Monday February 9 for her new miniseries The Slap.

Her dramatically different look included a line free forehead, little to no eye makeup and a reluctance to smile which had many speculating the natural beauty had recently undergone plastic surgery to achieve her youthful look.

After all of the headlines, Thurman’s makeup artist Troy Surratt decided to speak up telling People magazine, “Frankly, I’m quite surprised by the conversation. By now I would have thought that we were all open to and knowledgeable of the role that makeup plays in the world of fashion and particularly celebrity, as a medium for creative self expression. I think that women should feel open to experiment with different beauty looks — it’s only makeup, at the end of the day it all washes off.”

Surratt was adamant to fans and critics alike that Thurman’s transformation is purely makeup based, not the result of surgery.

“[It’s] effortless Parisienne chic. I wanted to give Uma a statement lip balanced by a more feathered brow. Uma and I discussed creating a look that was more editorial with soft natural lashes. As a makeup artist I’ve grown a bit tired of all of the lash-y looks and fake eyelashes that we’ve been seeing on the red carpet for some time now.”

Just to ensure that all buzz about her look was cut off, Surratt also took credit for her flawless complexion saying he prepped her skin and used specific makeups to achieve the look.
