Wes Ramsey Exits General Hospital

Wes Ramsey, who portrayed Peter August, has made his final appearance on General Hospital.

Although Ramsey’s character was last seen unconscious and bleeding, after being pushed down a flight of stairs by Dr. Finn (Michael Easton), his departure from the ABC soap was met with suspicion. Audiences had grown accustomed to Peter August rebounding from certain doom, all too often.

Even as Soap Opera Digest reports that Ramsey is out, GH fans continue to poke holes in the narrative, citing the fact that Ramsey has yet to release a statement confirming his exit. On top of that, viewers had assumed that his character would have a sizeable role in the baby-swap storyline between Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) and Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) that just got rolling.

It’s worth noting that the conspiracy-like skepticism among viewers should not be misconstrued as wishful thinking from loyal Peter August fans. The character was fairly unpopular, and audiences routinely called for his onscreen demise.

Who could blame them? Peter August caused an inordinate amount of trouble in Port Charles and somehow survived every close call — until now, apparently. Still, he’ll be remembered as one of the soap’s most relentless villains.

Is Wes Ramsey leaving the door open in the event GH needs a noteworthy character return down the road? It would be the most Peter August-y thing Peter August could do. But we’ll have to wait and see.
