It takes awhile to sort things out following the unexpected death of anyone. This is especially true when that anyone is a celebrity with an estate estimated at several million dollars, and children who were under their legal guardianship who are named as beneficiaries of that estate. Such is the case with Paul Walker’s surviving daughter, Meadow Walker, who is 15 years old, and the sole beneficiary of his estate.
Paul’s mother, Cheryl Ann Walker, is petitioning for legal custody of her granddaughter–this is also a desire Paul expressed in his will. According to the petition, Meadow’s mother has an alcohol problem, and has struggled with the addiction for years.
To paint the picture properly, this is not an ugly custody battle in which two parties are tearing at a teenager who has experienced the worst tragedy most people could imagine. This is Paul Walker’s mother ensuring that the legality of the guardianship is granted, just as Paul wanted.
In terms of family relations, Meadow is already living with her grandmother, as well as her mother. It has been reported that all three live at Cheryl Ann Walker’s home. Ultimately, the petition for guardianship isn’t some desperate attempt to throw Meadow’s mother under the bus for reasons of spite or mistrust. Meadow Walker will be of legal age within three years, and it seems that Paul’s mother would serve as an excellent guide in walking her granddaughter toward adulthood–helping her to understand the plight of potential celebrity spotlight, as well as familiarizing her more and more with memories of her late father.
