The 25 year old Simone Battle, former finalist on the X-Factor, and member of the pop group, G.R.L. was found dead in her Los Angeles residence on Friday. Authorities have ruled her death a suicide.
This isn’t a story of a celebrity artist struggling through a life that had been, and never would be again–this news was unexpected from those who knew Simone–truly shocking to all who knew her, because she was considered a rising star. G.R.L. was even slated to perform in Las Vegas on Monday.
According to Simone’s father, Anthony Battle, there were no signs that Simone might have been suffering from depression. He suggested she might have had an “invisible disability.” Whatever the case, it will be interesting to see if the family pursues toxicology reports to see if the singer was sober, or under the influence of substances at the time of her death.
G.R.L. cancelled their concert scheduled for September 8, and offered their condolences via social media. Others, including current and past X-Factor judges, Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Nicole Scherzinger offered their condolences, and shared sadness via Twitter. Scherzinger stated that she would dedicate her performance at a South African concert in the memory of Simone.
It’s mind-consuming when considering the thought process of an individual contemplating or attempting suicide. Many studies have suggested that it’s not a loss for the value of life, and it’s not always a loss of self-worth. The variables are as unique as the individual. Regardless of the story, it’s always received with sadness–especially when someone chooses to take their own life when they’re so young.
