10 New TV Shows You Need to Watch This Fall

Has the “Breaking Bad” finale left a massive void in your television routine that you’re desperate to fill? This season’s lineup of new shows offers a smattering of comedy, drama, and political intrigue, and your next addiction is surely right around the corner. For new characters to love and cliffhangers to hate, check out some of these new must-see shows premiering this fall.

“Sleepy Hollow”

This new Fox drama starring Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie is going to be a huge hit with both fans of the supernatural and history buffs alike. The show puts a clever new spin on the familiar tale of Ichabod Crane, allowing him to time travel to the year 2013 in order to solve the Headless Horseman murders with present-day law enforcement. Fox is banking big on the success of “Sleepy Hollow,” and the buzz surrounding its September 16th premier is all positive so far.

“Mom”

Allison Janney and Anna Faris are the two funny ladies heading up this comedy about the relationship between mothers and daughters. Expect a lot of laughs and a few jewels of wisdom about the difficulties of raising children. This show should score big points with fans of female comedy and real-life young mothers. Watch for its premier on CBS on September 23rd.

“Hostages”

“Hostages,” a new political thriller on CBS, has been getting tons of buzz for its exceptional casting and complex script. Toni Collette and Dylan McDermott star opposite each other in this plot-twisting saga of an innocent family stuck in the middle of a vast FBI conspiracy. The show premiers on September 23rd, and the first episode promises to deliver some big surprises right from the start.

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” 

Cop comedies don’t come along too often, and this new one from the creators of “Parks and Recreation” and “The Office” shows big promise for joining the ranks of those classic favorites. “SNL” star Andy Samberg leads the cast as a goof-off young detective who must be reined in by his new captain. Don’t miss the show’s premier on September 17th.

“The Originals”

Television’s fascination with vampires still knows no bounds, and this new action drama on the CW introduces the original vampire family to lovers of the creepy occult. Set in a fictionalized New Orleans overrun with werewolves, witches and other inhuman characters, the show takes “The Vampire Diaries” to the next level while delivering some first-rate dramatic script. Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies star in the premier on October 15th.

“Almost Human”

Producer J.J. Abrams hits another home run with “Almost Human,” premiering on Fox on November 4th. “Almost Human” stars actor Karl Urban as a police officer who awakens after a coma to find that he’s been assigned an android partner. Fans of dystopian fiction and sci-fi drama will get a kick out of watching Urban navigate the struggles of daily life with a robot.

“Trophy Wife” 

Malin Akerman stars in this heartfelt new comedy as a party girl who finally gets married and settles down, acquiring three stepchildren and her new husband’s former wives to boot. The script is fresh and endearing, and Marcia Gay Harden and Michaela Watkins shine as the two ex-wives. The show will premier on September 24th on ABC.


“The Crazy Ones” 

Heavy-hitting actors Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar are reason enough to watch “The Crazy Ones,” a zany new father-and-daughter comedy beginning this fall on CBS. The pair run a highly profitable advertising firm together and each have complicated relationships and roles within the company. Robin Williams is as flawless as ever, and Sarah Michelle Gellar won’t disappoint her “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” fans. Catch the premier of “The Crazy Ones” on September 26th for a special cameo from Kelly Clarkson.


”The Blacklist” 

NBC’s hot new criminal thriller stars James Spader, in his triumphant return to television, as a rogue government agent who agrees to surrender himself to the FBI to help catch a dangerous terrorist. Named the Best New Drama by the Television Critics Association, this intriguing new series also stars Megan Boone as a rookie FBI agent who is desperate to prove herself. The show premiers on September 23rd.


“Dads”

The talented Seth MacFarlane is back this fall with the new Fox comedy “Dads.” This comedy features Giovanni Ribisi and Seth Green as two 30-something men who find themselves unwillingly living with their fathers. Fans of “Family Guy” and “American Dad” should clear their evening schedule on September 17th to watch this show’s premier.
