12 Spookiest Celebrity Ghost Stories

Published on October 30, 2015.

Even celebrities can’t escape the presence of those on the other side, and many of Hollywood’s brightest stars have expressed terror over private experiences of hauntings. This list countdowns the creepiest and spookiest celebrity tales of paranormal activity.

12. Keanu Reeves

Keanu Reeves had an experience with the other side early in life that haunts him to this day. “I was living in New Jersey when I saw and felt this ghost. I remember just staring at this suit which had no body or legs in it as it came into the room before disappearing. It was a double-breasted suit in white, and I looked at my nanny, who was just as shocked as me. I just couldn’t get back to sleep afterwards, and I still see the figure in my dreams.” Pretty unbelievable, right? Who knew Keanu had a nanny?!

11. Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson claims to have seen ghosts plenty of times. Kate recalled a time her mother, Goldie Hawn, rented a home in London, England, and she saw “a ghost of a woman with no face, and that was really creepy.” Umm…yeah! But Kate knows how to handle it. While on a U.K. talk show she explained what to do: “[It’s] a fifth energy. When you see something, you are supposed to tell the energy what year it is and that they don’t belong.” Now at least I know for next time I see a woman with no face.

10. Katy Perry

According to my favorite source, The National Enquirer, Katy Perry received quite the scare when a mustachioed man appeared to her in her mirror while she was alone on set in a house. Katy is said to have “raced from the room and down the enormous staircase, screaming at the top of her lungs! Everyone tried to calm her down. She told them she would not return to that room, and wanted to get out of the house immediately.”

9. Ariana Grande

Back in 2013, Ariana Grande decided to make a pit stop at Stull Cemetery in Kansas City, also rumored to be the gateway to hell (the cemetery, not the city). Like, why not? Grande told Complex that while in the car, she had “this sick overwhelming feeling of negativity,” and they “smelled sulfur, which is the sign of a demon…There was a fly in the car randomly, which is another sign of a demon.” She snapped a pic to capture the “scary” experience, but instead, she claims she captured three “textbook demons.” When she tried to send the 666 megabyte pic of proof to her manager, it wouldn’t send. She has since deleted that picture along with the others once saved in the “Demons” folder on her phone because strange things were happening. Yep…

8. Peter Jackson

The director of the epically famous flick The Hobbit recalled a terrifying supernatural experience he had while filming Lord of the Rings in New Zealand. “One night I woke up and there was a figure in the room,” Jackson relayed to The Daily Telegraph. “She was really scary—her face was like a silent scream. She glided across the room and disappeared into the wall.” When Jackson told his wife about what he had seen the next day, she asked if ‘it was the woman with a screaming face?’ even though they had never spoken about it. I got goosebumps!

7. Miley Cyrus

During her 2009 European tour, “Fall Down” singer Miley Cyrus is said to have rented a haunted flat in London, England. “I thought I had seen a little boy sitting on the sink watching me take a shower so I felt really freaked out,” Cyrus stated in an interview with ELLE UK. Cyrus also reported that her sister had been burned by inexplicably hot water while showering. After looking into the history of the building, Cyrus discovered that it was once a family-owned bakery. The mother and eventually the father died, leaving the son responsible for the business. Hannah Montana decided to get out of dodge after her experience. “I had to move. That’s not a lie. I will never stay there again.” The family relocated to a more comfortable stay at the Soho Hotel.

6. Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba claims to have been attacked by a ghost when she was 17. “I had no idea what it was,” she stated to the Sydney Herald. “Something definitely took the covers off me and I definitely couldn’t get off the bed, and then, once I did, I screamed, ran to my parents’ room and I don’t think I spent many nights in that house ever again.”

5. Matthew McConaughey

When Matthew McConaughey moved into his Hollywood crib he set up his tent in his bedroom to sleep in with his dog. He’s Matthew McConaughey—he can do what he wants! Anyways, he reported to TeenHollywood.com that that night, he heard some strange sounds including “a sound like a dime dropping from 10 feet off the ground onto a glass table.” Good thing it wasn’t a quarter! He then grabbed a bat and ran “buck naked” to see what it was. Obviously it was the ghost of an old woman that he has since named Madame Blue. He’s not afraid of her though. “She’s a cool ghost. Maybe me being nude all the time is why we get along.” I could see that!

4. Ke$ha

Ke$ha is said to have moved out of her L.A. home after being plagued by paranormal visits. “I’d always try to convince my friends to spend the night, ‘cause I wouldn’t get haunted on if they were there.” The experience of always having her friends crash with her to avoid the otherworldly presence inspired some lyrics of the hit song ‘Tik ToK’. “I woke up one morning, surrounded by all my girlfriends. I woke up feeling like P. Diddy!” I guess there’s a plus side to the haunting. The world will be forever changed by those gracious and unforgettable lyrics…

3. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato reported to Buzzfeed that her house is “ridiculously haunted. Not by a bad spirit, but by a little girl.” Oh good! Lovato believes the child’s name is Emily. She’s so sure of the haunting that she’s invited mediums and ghost hunters over to her pad to check it out, and they apparently agreed…it’s Emily! “I saw her in my closet one time. When I was three years old my mom caught me talking to something by myself. She asked, ‘who are you talking to?’ and I said, ‘My best friend Emily.’” Creepy!

2. Adele

According to a source, Adele didn’t even want to sleep in her new £7 million home in Sussex, England. The mansion is a converted convent set in 25 acres of land (with two swimming pools!). She told a friend, “I’m not rattling around here on my own. It gives me the creeps.” She was so afraid of staying alone she hired a female bodyguard to spend the nights after “hearing things that made her jump.” She is said to pay the bodyguard a £100,000 a year to stay with her. Not a bad gig…if you can handle the ghosts of dead nuns.

1. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga reportedly talks about her beliefs in the world of paranormal activity quite openly. She apparently believes that the spirit of her deceased Aunt Joanne has been instilled within her. Her Auntie Joanne died at the age of 19 and was a painter and a poet. Gaga believes that she has been chosen to complete her aunt’s mission. Lady Gaga is also said to have held a seance to rid her of a ghost named “Ryan” that was “annoying” her. The pop star was supposedly terrified even though Ryan did not do much aside from following her around constantly. She believes it’s better to be safe than sorry.
