12 Celebrity Women Who Are Changing Beauty Standards

Published on September 2, 2015.

Beauty is an ever-changing, highly subjective concept, yet the media sometimes makes it seem like there is only one set way for women to be beautiful. Magazines, television, and movies present the public with a highly standardized version of beauty that is generally very thin, white, able-bodied, gender normative, and highly airbrushed. Lately, people have been challenging these beauty standards in many ways, and starting to finally believe that there are many, many ways to be beautiful. The women on this list are people in the media who go against certain norms, and show that they are gorgeous without fitting the cookie-cutter standards of society.
