Celebrities You Forgot Appeared On ‘Charmed’

Published on November 7, 2017. Updated October 2, 2019

Charmed ran for eight incredible seasons from October 1998 to May 2006 and was one of the few series with all female leads. While the focus was on Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs and later Rose McGowan as The Charmed Ones, Prue, Phoebe, Piper, and Paige, there were also a lot of fantastic guest stars and supporting characters on the series. When rewatching the series, fans see a lot of familiar faces who were just getting their start when they appeared on the hit show or others that fans loved but didn’t remember having a spot on the magical series. Here are 15 celebrities you probably forgot guest starred or appeared on Charmed:

15. Eric Dane

Before Eric Dane was charming audiences as McSteamy on Grey’s Anatomy or taking control as Tom Chandler on The Last Ship, he appeared in some of the best shows of the ’90s and 2000s including Charmed. Dane was one of the very few who had a multi-episode guest starring spot on the series as he appeared in nine episode as Jason Dean, a mortal businessman who takes over The Bay Mirror newspaper in 2003. Dean was one of Phoebe’s most serious relationships on the show, but it all came crashing down around them after he found out she was a witch and had to end their relationship.

14. John Cho

John Cho has had some pretty big roles as Harold Lee in Harold & Kumar and Sulu in the new Star Trek films, but when he was still building up his career, one of his first roles was in Charmed. Cho appeared in only the fourth episode of the series called “Dead Man Dating” as Mark Chao, a recently murdered man whose ghost Piper falls for. Instead of having a love story, Piper had to help Chao get a proper burial before an evil spirit could claim his soul.

13. James Avery

The late, great James Avery will always be known as Philip Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and that is why many forget about his other roles, including a small part on Charmed. Avery appeared in the first episode of season seven as Zola, an Elder who was sent to talk to Leo about his son Wyatt. Unfortunately, Leo ended up killing Zola after he was tricked by the demon Barbas into thinking Zola was a threat to his sons after the Elder Gideon succeeded in killing a future version of Leo’s other son Chris.

12. Amy Adams

Before she was starring in huge blockbuster movies, Amy Adams was getting her start on TV in hit shows such as That ’70s Show, Smallville, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Charmed. In Charmed, Adams appeared in one episode in season two as Maggie Murphy, an incredibly kind woman who gets targeted by a Darklighter. After she is saved by Prue, the Darklighter turns his focus on Prue who then needs to be saved by Piper, Phoebe, and Leo. Although Leo retrieving his Whitelighter powers to save Prue was a huge moment in the show, Amy Adams’ time on the series has been long forgotten.

11. Norman Reedus

Before he was killing zombies as Daryl Dixon on The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus was dealing with the supernatural on Charmed. The actor appeared in two episodes of season five, and is barely recognizable with an almost clean-shaven face and shorter hair in “Necromancing the Stone” and “Sense and Sense Ability.” Reedus played Nate Parks, a piano bar owner who seemed to be Paige’s perfect guy until she found out he was hiding the fact he had a wife and two children. He was one of the few characters who wasn’t a demon, or a demon in disguise, and simply just a poor date choice for Paige.

10. Jenny McCarthy

Even Jenny McCarthy made an appearance on Charmed! The actress and host starred in season six’s “The Power of Three Blondes,” as Mitzy Stillman, one of the sisters who steal the Charmed Ones’ powers and identities. Mitzy along with her sisters Mabel and Margo were low-level witches who wanted to become more powerful so they created a spell to go after the Charmed Ones. After the Halliwell sisters defeated the trio, they had their powers bound and took them to jail where they were arrested for murder and Daryl informed them they were wanted in eight other states.

9. Daniel Dae Kim

Daniel Dae Kim has had many notable roles on TV, so it easy to forget his lesser roles from early in his career. Along with appearing on shows such as NYPD Blue and Seinfeld, he also made an appearance on Charmed‘s fourth episode of season four “Enter the Demon.” The actor portrayed Yen Lo, a student of the Zen Master, who becomes enraged when he is not named the master’s successor because Yen Lo had decided to use his abilities for evil. The Charmed Ones were able to defeat him by taking his soul, but not before Yen Lo mortally wounded the Zen Master.

8. Rainn Wilson

It would probably be difficult to take Rainn Wilson seriously in his role as Kierkan on Charmed now because he is best known these days for his comedic role as Dwight Schrute on The Office. In Charmed his character was a very serious demonic alchemist in the episode “Coyote Piper.” His powers allowed him to not only bring the dead back to life but to also possess the living and he ends up possessing Piper. As is common with someone who crosses the Charmed Ones, Piper, Phoebe, and Prue teamed up to vanquish him right before he tried to kill Piper.

7. Zachary Quinto

Like so many other actors, Zachary Quinto took on many small and sometimes uncredited roles on TV series to get his start in Hollywood, which included a very small role on Charmed. Quinto appeared in season five’s “Cat House” as a Warlock who is out to get the Halliwell’s familiar which is their cat, Kit. Despite the uncredited role at that point in his career, he has become very well known in the industry with roles in 24, Heroes, and as Spock in the new Star Trek films.

6. Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm has had an interesting career trajectory in the entertainment industry, but there is no denying his biggest success came with the lead role in AMC’s Mad Men. Long before he was Don Draper, however, he was Jack Brody for one episode of Charmed. Hamm appeared as the character for the season seven episode “Ordinary Witches.” Despite it being a small role, it was very important as he was the father of Kyle Brody, and was killed along with his wife Ruth by a group of demons in 1981 who were trying to obtain a rare Egyptian artifact. Jack and Ruth’s deaths are what drove Kyle to seek revenge and eventually become involved with the Charmed Ones.

5. Ron Perlman

Ron Perlman is the perfect man to play an imposing figure including Hellboy in the 2004 film as well as Clay Morrow in the hit series Sons of Anarchy, but back in 2001, he played a different character on Charmed, who was also frightening. For the season three episode “Wrestling with Demons,” Perlman portrayed Mr. Kellman, the leader of the Demonic Academy who specialized in turning mortals into demons. Even he wasn’t a match for the Halliwell sisters as they eventually took him down and he was never seen again.

4. Nick Lachey

Over the years, former 98 Degrees member and reality star Nick Lachey has had a few small roles, but surprisingly one of his biggest was on Charmed. Lachey first appeared on the series in season seven’s “A Call to Arms” as Leslie St. Claire, a ghostwriter who becomes a love interest for Phoebe during the season. Although his character lasted six episodes, he eventually left for L.A. and the pair broke up because Phoebe never seemed to have the time for him when he was around and knew it would be worse if they tried long distance.

3. Bethany Joy Lenz

Bethany Joy Lenz will always be known to many as Haley James from One Tree Hill, but as she was starting her career she starred in an episode of Charmed. The actress appeared in season four’s “A Knight to Remember” as Lady Julia, a young noblewoman whose prince is seduced by the Enchantress which happens to be an evil Paige in the past life. Piper and Phoebe had to travel back to the 12th century in order to stop the Enchantress and once they stopped her and bound her powers, Lady Julia was reunited with her love.

2. Misha Collins

Back in 1999, Misha Collins was an up-and-coming actor and for only his third on-screen role he was cast as Eric Bragg in Charmed. Collins appeared in season two’s “They’re Everywhere” as a mortal and love interest of Phoebe’s who uncovered the location of the Akashic Records and was hunted by The Collectors, which meant he needed protection by the Halliwell sisters. Coincidentally, almost 10 years later, Collins found his biggest role yet on another mystical series when he took on the part of Castiel on Supernatural. Now, Collins is best known for the role and his Charmed days are long forgotten.

1. Kaley Cuoco

With the Charmed Ones battling different demons and foes almost every episode, there was little room on the series for recurring guest stars. Long before she was best known as Penny on The Big Bang Theory, Kaley Cuoco was one of the few with a multi-episode arc on Charmed. For 22 episodes, Cuoco starred as Billie Jenkins, a witch who discovers the Charmed Ones and asks for their help developing her powers for good after she and her sister fall under the influence of the demonic Triad. For many fans, the discovery of Billie in the show’s final season was hopefully leading towards a Charmed spinoff but it wasn’t meant to be.
