7 Celebrities Who Are Adamantly Against Vaccines

Published on February 5, 2015. Updated June 27, 2017

There are some people in Hollywood who are adamantly against the use of vaccines. They think that they are responsible for a number of problems, including learning disabilities, asthma and autism. This debate – pro-vaccination versus anti-vaccination – has been raging for years. Choosing not to vaccinate your child is still a pretty big deal, but there are a number of celebrities out there who think it is better for their children if they don’t get vaccinated. We’ve rounded up 7 celebrities who are openly anti-vaccine. Their opinions are definitely controversial, but they’re loud and proud and they refuse to let their views be ignored!

7. Jim Carrey

When Jim Carrey was dating Jenny McCarthy, he seemed to be against vaccinations. He openly admitted that he was skeptical of the scientific consensus that there are no links between childhood vaccinations and the development of autism and wrote an article for the Huffington Post where he questions vaccine research: “If we are to believe that the ruling of the ‘vaccine court’ in these cases mean that all vaccines are safe, then we must also consider the rulings of that same court in the Hannah Polling and Bailey Banks cases, which ruled vaccines were the cause of autism and therefore assume that all vaccines are unsafe. Clearly both are irresponsible assumptions, and neither option is prudent.”

The “Dumb and Dumber” star also led a “Green Our Vaccines” march and rally in 2008 in Washington D.C. with his former girlfriend to advocate for the elimination of toxins from children’s vaccines and to change children’s vaccination schedules. They believe kids receive “too many vaccines, too soon, many of which are toxic.”

6. Rob Schneider

Rob Schneider is vehemently against vaccinations. In an interview with Vista Magazine, he railed against the use of vaccines. He doesn’t think they are at all safe and they are probably to blame for a number of problems like asthma and learning disabilities.

“Take a look at the number of shots being given. Currently it’s 69 doses of six vaccines before the age of 18 years old, including the day of birth. Forty-six doses before the age of six. Concurrently, we’re seeing serious problems with kids in America. One child in six is learning disabled in the United States. One in nine has asthma. One in 54 develops autism. One in 450 becomes diabetic. These numbers have gone way up, and Canada is also suffering an increase in chronic illness among children. There is no explanation coming from either US or Canadian health officials explaining why this is happening. The potential role of increased vaccination should not be left off the table either on research agendas or in public conversation. We can’t just say that widespread vaccination has nothing to do with it,” he said.

5. Alicia Silverstone

In her controversial book “The Kind Mama: A Simple Guide to Supercharged Fertility, a Radiant Pregnancy, a Sweeter Birth, and a Healthier, More Beautiful Beginning,” Alicia Silverstone argued against the use of vaccines. “While there has not been a conclusive study of the negative effects of such a rigorous one-size-fits-all, shoot-’em-up schedule, there is increasing anecdotal evidence from doctors who have gotten distressed phone calls from parents claiming their child was ‘never the same’ after receiving a vaccine,” she wrote. “And I personally have friends whose babies were drastically affected in this way.”

The “Clueless” star’s son Bear has never been vaccinated against any childhood disease and he has also never had a “drop of medicine.” Silverstone is one of those moms who prefer an all-natural approach to medicine and healing and she thinks that this approach has benefited her son’s immune system. “Because his body is a super-clean, healthy machine it can defend itself and flush out all the nasty stuff much more quickly than a baby whose diet isn’t as kind,” she wrote.

4. Billy Corgan

Billy Corgan lashed out against forced immunizations on is blog, Everything From Here To There. This was around the time that H1N1 was considered a big threat. He took a rather controversial stance on the whole thing. According to him, the government created the fear, which prompted people to get immunized against the virus.

“If you follow some of the links I have been supplying as of late, you’ll notice many are focused on the propaganda build up to our day of reckoning with the Swine Flu virus. I say ‘propaganda’ because, in my heart, there is something mighty suspicious about declaring an emergency for something that has yet to show itself to be a grand pandemic. American President Obama has declared a national emergency about this virus, which he in his own words said was, at this point, a preventative measure. So, why declare an emergency if there isn’t one?” It sounds like the former frontman of Smashing Pumpkins should probably just relax.

3. Jenny McCarthy

Jenny McCarthy has been one of the most outspoken celebrities when it comes to vaccines. She has argued that vaccines can trigger autism and that this happened with her son, Evan. Since then, she has argued against the use of vaccines in children. “What number does it have to be for everyone to start listening to what the mothers of children who have autism have been saying for years, which is…We vaccinated our baby and SOMETHING happened. SOMETHING happened. Why won’t anyone believe us?” she wrote in her book “Mother Warriors.”

In recent years, McCarthy has started to back away from her previous stance, claiming that she isn’t anti-vaccine. “I am not anti-vaccine,” McCarthy told the Daily Beast. “I’m in this gray zone of, I think everyone should be aware and educate yourself and ask questions. And if your kid is having a problem, ask your doctor for an alternative way of doing the shots.”

2. Kristin Cavallari

Kristin Cavallari admitted on the Fox Business show “The Independents” that she wouldn’t be vaccinating her son Camden or the other son that she was pregnant with at the time. “You know what, I’ve read too many books about autism,” she said. “There is a pediatric group called Homestead or…Home First…They’ve never vaccinated any of their children, and they’ve never had one case of autism.”

When she appeared on “Watch What Happens Live,” the former “Laguna Beach” star defended her anti-vaccine stance, calling it the “best decision” for her family. “Here’s the thing: At the end of the day, I’m just a mom. I’m trying to make the best decision for my kid,” the young mother/shoe designer said. “There are very scary statistics out there regarding what is in vaccines and what they cause – asthma, allergies, ear infections, all kinds of things. And we feel like we’re making the best decision for our kids.”

1. Mayim Bialik

When Mayim Bialik first had her two children, she contemplated whether or not to vaccinate them. Ultimately, she decided against it. “We are a non-vaccinating family, but I make no claims about people’s individual decisions. We based ours on research and discussions with our pediatrician, and we’ve been happy with that decision, but obviously there’s a lot of controversy about it,” she told People magazine.

The former “Blossom” star is surprisingly unconventional, which might help explain why she is anti-vaccine. She opted for a natural childbirth, breastfed her son until he was a toddler and she won’t give her children medications or antibiotics. “Between our two boys, ages six and three-and-a-half, we have dealt with just about every ailment, sickness and flu out there. However, neither of our sons has ever been on antibiotics, nor do we give them Tylenol, Motrin, antihistamines or cough syrup. I’ve learned from talking to other moms that almost everything you have right now in your home and your heart is enough to deal with most everything,” she told HuffPost Live.
