When it comes to divorce, celebrities seem to like blindsiding their partners, and we don’t blame them – it’s an easy way to get the upper hand! The reality TV world is no exception. We have a list of 7 reality stars who were totally taken off guard when their partners pulled the plug on their marriages – check it out:

7. Yolanda Foster

No one saw The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star and David Foster’s divorce coming, not even Yolanda Foster herself. She told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that she didn’t know it was over until David told her that it was done. “We had already wrapped shooting, and the show was done,” she said. “I know exactly the day: Nov. 15.” The couple had been together for nine years at that point and married for four years. As far why the marriage ended, Yolanda blames her battle with Lyme disease. “You can’t underestimate how much it takes for a man to take care of somebody that’s sick all of the time,” she said. “David didn’t change – I’m the one that changed. And, you know, I guess this is the outcome of that.”

6. Peter Thomas

Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey blindsided her husband, Peter Thomas, with her divorce announcement earlier this year. He claims that they had talked about divorcing in the past, but hadn’t come to a decision together on the matter, which is why her divorce announcement was such a shock. He also alleged that the pressure from the Real Housewives show doomed their marriage and so did their “personal ambitions.”

5. Leah Messer

Jeremy Calvert threatened Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer with divorce multiple times during their two and a half year marriage, she never took it seriously so, when he served her with divorce papers, she was taken off guard. Even with the cheating allegations and her alleged prescription addiction problem, she really didn’t want throw in the towel on her second marriage. “I don’t think we should get a divorce, but I think each of us needs time. Like, he needs to get help, and I need to get help,” she said. Unfortunately, it didn’t matter what Leah wanted. Jeremy’s mind was already made up.

4. Javi Marroquin

When Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry filed for divorce in December 2015 from her husband of three years Javi Marroquin, he was taken by surprise. Even though their relationship had been tumultuous, they had reunited before he went on a seven-month deployment with the Air Force and she failed to tell him that the divorce was still on. “When she brought it up later I was like, ‘Whoa, I thought you canceled this,’” he told Radar Online. “I didn’t even know she still had it going on. Up until the day we left, to my knowledge, we were good… We were going to make it.” Rumor has it that Lowry cheated on him and this will come out during season eight of Teen Mom 2.

1. Nick Lachey

Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson had only been married for three years when, out of the blue, she told him that she wanted to file for divorce back in 2005. According to him, he told her to sleep on it, and when she awoke the next day, she was still sure that she wanted a divorce. Lachey blames their reality TV show, Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica. “Jessica and I began playing these parts even when we were by ourselves,” he said. “It became a really blurred line. There was a question about what truly was our reality.”
