9 Most Disappointing Movies of 2012

We wait months – sometimes even a year – to see the next big movie and when we get to the theater, it’s not what we expected or downright disappointing. It is not uncommon for this to happen in the movie and overall entertainment industry but 2012 seemed to have more of these movies than usual and left many movie goers unimpressed.
9. The Dictator
As the highest rated movie on this list, the latest Sacha Baron Cohen flick did not do as bad as many others but still managed to disappoint many Borat and Bruno fans. Looking for a loose story line that didn’t carry much of a message, moviegoers were disappointed with its political reference, thick plot that actually had a message despite racial slurs and complete disregard for the politically correct ways of the world. The Rotten Tomatoes score is a 5.9 out of 10.
8. 4:44 Last Day on Earth
As a limited theater film, this one boasted great potential in the ever popular end of the world genre. Even film goers that looked forward to this type of movie were highly disappointed with its cliche overtones, lack of an original story line and overused theme. The Rotten Tomatoes score is a 5.2 out of 10.
7. Rock of Ages
Broadway buffs and 80’s music lovers looked forward to this comical take on the popular Broadway play. They were, for the most part, disappointed with what they got out of the movie. Big time names overshadowed characters and the silliness was not done in the right way to be comical. The Rotten Tomatoes score is a 5 out of 10.
6. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
The thought of a movie with this title strikes viewers as more of a dark comedy than what it is in reality. Most movie goers that were excited for it found the movie to take itself much too seriously for the premise of vampires being behind slave trade and could not fathom such a thing being taken seriously. The Rotten Tomatoes score is a 4.9 out of 10.
5. Battleship
Despite its highly anticipated release, this movie proved to be much less fun than the game that shares its name. Viewers who loved the game, or were perhaps curious about how this could even be made into a movie, ventured to their local theaters only to see a movie that had a poor story line, was badly written and had nothing to do with the game. The Rotten Tomatoes score is a 4.6 out of 10.
4. Act of Valor
Without putting down the heroic “actors” in the movie – most of which are real life Navy SEALS – many people simply just couldn’t connect with the movie. The acting is bad (what do we expect from men who were trained to fight and not trained to tell us stories through their acting?), the script was boring at best and many aspects of war were completely ignored. The Rotten Tomatoes score is a 4.5 out of 10.
3. What to Expect When You’re Expecting
With a book that shares the same title and is highly regarded as one of the best pre baby books available, many moms and dads could not wait to see the movie. Viewers walked away disappointed due to the lack of character, emotion and originality depicted in the movie, which had such high expectations. The Rotten Tomatoes score is a 4.4 out of 10.
2. Wrath of the Titans
While its predecessor, Clash of the Titans, was a hit, producers should have quit while they were ahead. Fans of the first movie looked forward to what was coming in the second and were disappointed by the movie still lacking good dialog skills, good acting skills and a good storyline. The Rotten Tomatoes score is a 4.4 out of 10.
1. The Devil Inside
Even for movie watchers that aren’t tired of seeing fake “found footage” movies, the Devil Inside still has nothing new to offer its audience. The movie, which was much-anticipated among movie-goers, was cheaply produced and does not have a real story line. It is not even, for most viewers, a scary movie. One of the worst parts for audiences is {SPOILER ALERT} the movie has no ending. The Rotten Tomatoes score is a 2.7 out of 10.
