Pharrell Joining “The Voice” as a Coach Next Season
Published on April 1, 2014.(LOS ANGELES) — The Voice will be a little happier next season. “Happy” singer Pharrell Williams is joining The Voice as a coach for its seventh season, which is expected to air in the fall.
His addition to the lineup comes in the wake of Cee Lo Green’s announcement in February that he’s departing the NBC singing competition.
The Voice executive producer Mark Burnett says in a statement, “I am thrilled to have Pharrell come back to The Voice family, and this time…as a coach. Continuing in The Voice tradition of having the biggest and most current music stars as coaches, Pharrell fits perfectly.”
As Burnett mentioned, Pharrell has some experience with The Voice, having served as an adviser for Usher’s team during the fourth season, which aired last spring.
After NBC announced the news, Pharrell tweeted, “This is going to be so fun.” Coach Adam Levine wrote to him, “Welcome to the circus dude!”
NBC says the rest of the coaches’ lineup for season seven will be confirmed at a later date. The coaches on the ongoing sixth season of The Voice are Usher, Adam, Blake Shelton and Shakira. Christina Aguilera is again on hiatus from the show after rejoining the lineup last fall.
