Sons Of Anarchy: Popular Couples Ranked
Published on January 19, 2017. Updated June 15, 2020Sons of Anarchy was far from a romantic series and in fact was, for the most part dark, twisted and even gory. Relationships were anything but perfect and very rarely ever went well. Although the focus of the series was on SAMCRO, it also centered around family, especially the bonds between mothers and sons, and family, making relationships a huge part of every storyline. Take a look back at 7 of the most popular couples from Sons of Anarchy ranked from worst to best:
7. Jax and Trinity
There were a lot of awful couples or almost couples on Sons of Anarchy, and from the outset, Jax and Trinity weren’t so bad. Granted, a lot of the other relationships in the series were more violent and awful, but nothing is worse than two people making out and almost sleeping together only to find out they are half-siblings. Luckily the crisis was averted before, as Gemma said, she ended up with a “three-headed grandchild.”

Fans got very little backstory between Jax and Wendy before being thrown into the story of Wendy giving birth to their son Abel following a pregnancy in which she used meth. It seems the two were never exactly happy, and although they had a brief reconciliation, it was short-lived, and things only went downhill from there. Jax and Wendy were a central couple on the show because of their role as Abel’s parents, but they were never a good couple, and that was guaranteed after Jax shot Wendy up with Meth after she got sober and returned to town hoping to gain access to her son.

For much of SOA‘s seven-season run, Gemma Teller and Clay Morrow were one of the most prominent couples. In the beginning, audiences were fans of Gemma and Clay as the king and queen of SAMCRO, but like all things in Charming, the good times did not last. Eventually, their relationship deteriorated and fans were eventually faced with the episode in which Clay brutally beat Gemma, and it was clear there was never any way to consider them a good couple on the show ever again.

There were a lot of “relationships” of sorts on Sons of Anarchy, and while Tig was a very sexual person, one of the only real relationships fans ever saw him in was with Venus Van Dam. While Tig’s affection towards the transvestite prostitute was the basis for many jokes with SAMCRO, the pair ended up having one of the most real relationships of the entire series. From twisted comments to sick jokes, fans never saw Tig more sincere than when he was with Venus, and they actually ended up rooting for the pair.

From the very beginning of the series, the central relationship storyline focused around Jax Teller and Tara Knowles, and while they may have been the main couple, they were certainly not the best. From their very first hook-up with Tara’s dead ex-boyfriend in the room to cheating, faked abortions, and murder, things rarely went well for the pair, and it often took a toll on their relationship. As fans know, things were pretty bad between the two as Tara worked to get herself and her children out of Charming, which eventually led to her brutal death.

Opie was without a doubt one of the most beloved characters on the series, and while audiences only got glimpses of his life with Donna before her murder, they did get to see more of his relationship with Lyla. For being one of the biggest guys in the club, Opie was a huge softie and fans loved how well he treated Lyla and how appreciative she was of having a good man in her life. Then, of course, their wedding was absolutely beautiful and Opie’s vows may have been profane but they were perfect.

Nero Padilla was one of the best new characters introduced over the course of the show, and he ended up being one half of the best couple on SOA. SAMCRO and Charming never saw a better power couple than Gemma with Nero, and the best part was Nero was actually a respectable and loving man who, unlike Clay, treated Gemma very well. Although Nero wasn’t introduced until later seasons, it didn’t take long for audiences to realize what a great addition he was for the series and especially for Gemma and her storyline.
