Will These 8 Pop Stars Be Relevant In Another 5 Years? Vote!

Published on January 14, 2015. Updated April 4, 2017

It is no secret that pop stars typically don’t have long careers. They usually become famous when they’re young and then, by the time they’re in their 30s, they are put out to pasture. This isn’t the fate for all pop stars though. Some of them, a rare few, manage to leave a lasting mark in the music industry and become pop icons as a result. Madonna and Michael Jackson are two examples of this. What we want to know is which of Hollywood’s young pop stars will still be relevant in another 5 years. Vote to let us know!

8. Lady Gaga

For a while, Lady Gaga was on top of the world. It was only a few years ago that her album Born This Way sold over one million copies in its first week on sale and that her tour, Born This Way Ball, became the highest grossing tour of the year. When she released ARTPOP in 2013, however, no one seemed to care. It received lukewarm reviews from critics and it didn’t sell well. According to her, this made her want to quit the business.

After working with jazz legend Tony Bennett, however, she’s changed her mind. She wants to continue singing and performing for many years to come. We keep wondering if this is even possible. In another five years, will anyone be that interested in buying a Lady Gaga album or is she going to have to find new ways to shock her way right back into our hearts?

7. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato was once considered Disney’s next tween queen. She rose to stardom on “Camp Rock” and then secured her own recording contract with Hollywood Records, as well as her own show, “Sonny with a Chance.” Then she had some problems with drugs and alcohol, as well as an eating disorder, so she checked into a treatment center to take care of her health. She came out on top. A year after leaving rehab, she released her third album, Unbroken, and then landed a mentoring gig on “The X Factor.”

Lovato has become a great role model for young women. She has been open about her struggles and is determined to set a positive example. Given where she’s come from, we’re definitely shocked to see how quickly she got it together. This leaves us with one question: Where do you see this former Disney queen in five years? Will she still be on top or will she have already happened?

6. Kesha

Kesha has achieved worldwide success thanks to debut album Animal, which reached the top of the charts. It has been a few years now since she released her follow up album, Warrior. Like her first album, this one received generally favorable reviews and reached number six on the U.S. Billboard 200. We’re not sure when to expect another album from Kesha. Right now she is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with her producer and mentor, Dr. Luke. She is accusing him of sexual abuse and battery while he has denied the claims and countersued.

We really like Kesha’s attitude. She has so much sass – it is refreshing. She only really established herself in the music business about five years ago, so we’re wondering where people see her in another five years. Do you think she will settle this lawsuit with Dr. Luke and go on to have a long career in pop music or is this lawsuit going to mark the end of her career?

5. Jonas Brothers

When the Jonas Brothers were first signed to a record contract, the boy band thing was already over. Bands like 98 Degrees, Backstreet Boys and NSYNC had already broken up. It was in this climate that the three Jonas boys became a big deal. They were the only boy band and they topped the charts and toured the world. In late 2013, however, the Jonas brothers decided to disband. According to Kevin, they broke up due to a “deep rift” between the members. They are now doing their own thing. Nick is the only one who is trying to pursue a solo career.

Considering how big this boy band used to be, do you think Kevin, Nick and Joe have what it takes to stay relevant now that they are no longer part of the Jonas Brothers? Or can these three still have successful careers outside the band? We’re not so sure, but we could be wrong!

4. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has been famous for several years now. Despite how young she is, she’s shown that she has a surprising amount of control over her career. When she first started out in the music business, she chose to go country; however, for the last couples of year, she started leaning more towards pop. Like a boss, she switched genres and released one of the hottest pop albums of 2014, 1989.

It really doesn’t seem to matter what Swifty does – everything seems to just work in her favor. She has become so many things – a style icon, a great friend, a gifted singer and songwriter, a feminist and a great role model for young women. So far, Swift has successfully transitioned from a teen country singer to a 20-something pop star. Do you think she has what it takes to stay relevant for another five years?

3. Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber became super famous when he was just a teenager. Young girls swooned over his little love ballads and his wholesome good looks, and he cultivated a pretty large female fan base as a result. His squeaky clean image made him the perfect imaginary boyfriend for young girls. Over the past few years though, Biebs has grown up quite a bit. He’s no longer a cute young boy and now he’s a rebellious young adult.

It has been about a year since Bieber has released an album. Since his run-ins with the law last year, he has maintained a pretty low profile – at least for him. We’re kind of wondering where his career is headed. The only two artists who were able to go from teen heartthrob to respected singer were Usher and Justin Timberlake. They defied the odds. We’re not sure if Biebs has what it takes. He sometimes seems too into himself, which is never a good thing. Do you think Bieber will be relevant in another five years?

2. Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez has grown up in the spotlight. Back in 2008, she was considered the next Miley Cyrus. She got her own show, “Wizards of Waverly,” launched a singing career and has become a budding movie star. She has almost everything that it takes to have a lasting career in Hollywood. She’s obviously talented and quite beautiful; however, when it comes to her feelings for on-again, off-again love Justin Bieber, she seems more like a love fool than anything. Last year, she surprised everyone when she voluntarily checked into rehab and canceled the Australian leg of her tour. Since then, she and Biebs have reconciled and broken up more times than we can count.

When it comes to Selena’s career, what do you think will happen? Does she have what it takes to last another five years in the spotlight or is she just doomed to become one of those Lindsay Lohan-type stars who are destined to burn out and fade away?

1. Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus has spent a considerable part of her life in the spotlight. She first rose to fame on the Disney show “Hannah Montana” and then she parleyed her talents into a lucrative film and music career. For the past couple of years, she’s mostly been focusing on her music though and keeping herself in the news with her shocking behavior and provocative clothing. Many female pop stars have taken this route before, so it is nothing new; however, it is problematic.

Because Cyrus is constantly making the news for her attention-grabbing antics, it is sometimes easy to forget that she’s actually a singer, a relatively talented one in fact. At times it seems as though she is afraid of becoming irrelevant, so she does more to try to shock her way into our hearts. These sorts of antics can only be effective for so long though. In another five years, do you think we will still care about Cyrus or will she be done?
