9. Daniel Goddard’s Update

Let’s start this round-up with a happy ending! Two weeks ago, Daniel Goddard (Cane) notified fans that his mother had suffered a stroke. Thankfully, the Y&R alum has posted an update to Instagram with the welcome news that his mother is recovering well. “Mum is home! Happy and healthy!” Goddard wrote alongside a photo of himself with his reunited family in Sydney. “Thank you for all of your kind comments and messages. It truly means so much to us!”

8. Michelle Stafford Calls Out Body-Shamer

File this story under: Soap Stars Are People Too! On Monday, October 18th, Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) had to deal with a rude fan who had critiqued the beauty’s appearance on social media. “Look at this sad woman. Commenting negatively about my body,” Stafford wrote in her Instagram stories, circling the offending comment. “I didn’t even think people did things like this anymore. She must be very sad. Tag her to make her feel better.” Co-star Courtney Hope (Sally) could certainly empathize with Stafford’s situation!

7. Sean Kanan On Melody Thomas Scott

In a new interview, The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) star Sean Kanan (Deacon) reflected on his crossover episodes with Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki). “It was great! Melody and I kind of picked up where we left off,” Kanan told Daytime Confidential. “We went outside the studio, sat on the balcony and just caught up. She’s so funny! I don’t know if other people know that about her. She has a great sense of humor! I would welcome the opportunity to work with her again anytime.” Interestingly, Kanan also revealed during the interview that he just signed a two-year contract with B&B, so maybe Nikki and Deacon’s paths will cross again!

5. Y&R’s Ratings Are Up

The 2022-2023 daytime broadcast television season is only a few weeks old, but Y&R is starting its jubilee anniversary on a high note. The soap’s ratings for the week of October 3rd through 7th surged to 3.297 million viewers, according to Soap Opera Network. Interestingly, that figure is 219,000 viewers greater than the same time period in 2020, when viewership was generally higher across all of television as a result of the global health crisis. So, who can we attribute this ratings boost to… Tucker?

4. Here Comes Johnny

Most soap audiences feel a mix of fear and intrigue whenever a character is recast, and that goes double for child actors. Younger recasts tend to either elevate their characters significantly or crash and burn with awkwardness. Luckily, Paxton Mishkind’s command over Johnny Abbott puts him firmly in the former category. In his first few episodes, Mishkind has won fans over with his careful mix of boyhood innocence and pre-teen angst. He even landed Soap Hub‘s Performer of the Week!

3. The Mystery Around Jeremy Stark

Daytime drama viewers might know James Hyde as Sam Bennett on Passions, but the actor is now about to debut as Jeremy Stark on Y&R. So, what do we know about this mysterious new character? Although the soap is remaining tight-lipped, spoilers hint that Stark will be someone from Diane’s secretive life in Los Angeles — and therefore another skeleton in Jenkins’ closet. Additional teasers hint that Stark has strong emotions toward Diane, although whether these are positive or negative emotions is hard to say. Either he’ll be seeking a reunion with the vixen, or looking for revenge!

2. Melody Versus The Master

Even though Melody Thomas Scott has been portraying Nikki Newman for the past 43 years, Y&R was hardly the start of her acting career. To hammer this point home, when Scott landed a role in Alfred Hitchcock’s Marnie at the age of eight, she thought he was “just another director”. In a conversation with Soap Opera Digest, Scott recounted that it was a nightmare working with the “Master of Suspense”. “I very quickly learned that he was a very scary, heavy breathing, critical guy,” Scott explained (as per Soaps.com). “Which is not hard for a lot of people to believe when I tell them this. He was exactly how you’d think: never smiled, very clear about exactly what he wanted.”

1. Why Mishael Morgan Stepped Away

Mishael Morgan (Amanda) has elaborated on her reasons for dropping down to recurring status with Y&R. In an interview with SOD, the Daytime Emmy winner touched on her ambitions outside of the soap genre. The star also revealed that her decision to leave arose when the CBS soap offered her a three-year contract. “I just felt like I wanted to tell more cutting-edge stories, just in light of Black Lives Matter,” Morgan explained, “and just see what else is out there that I can be connected to.”
