From 2001 to 2011, the eight Harry Potter films were released, adding to the enormous franchise that took over the world.

As fans know, four different directors tackled the task of bringing the magical world of Harry Potter to the big screen which meant each film stood out in its own way and there were many differences in the films as the directors made their mark on the franchise. Without inflation adjustment, it is the third highest-grossing film series with $7.7 billion in worldwide receipts.

For fans that devoured the books, the movies were either a hit or a flop, with some feeling like the films strayed too far from what J.K. Rowling had written in the novels but either way they flocked to the theaters to see them, and many settle in for a binge watch of the entire eight films regularly.
