Follow along for 11 celebs who ignored the traditional route and chose a unique dress yet still looked absolutely gorgeous walking down the aisle on the big day:
11. Olivia Palermo
Olivia Palermo is the queen of the Hollywood fashion scene, so it’s no surprise that this stylish lady opted for something out of the ordinary on her wedding day! Her tulle skirt and cashmere knit combo were designed by Carolina Herrera. The full tulle skirt was cinched in at the waist and featured layers of silk and satin along with a high slit and floral embroidery. She kept her hair and makeup natural and romantic and allowed her timeless side to shine.
10. Avril Lavigne
Avril Lavigne is notorious for her bad-girl reputation and tendency to break tradition and expectations! When she married Chad Kroger back in 2013 Avril opted for a strapless black tulle Monique Lhullier gown. She even held black flowers to match and of course, heavy black eyeliner as well! Avril added a girly touch, however, and opted for a diamond headband that attached to her black tulle veil.
9. Dianna Agron
Dianna Agron has proved to be quite different than her head cheerleader character on Glee! Instead of classic white, Agron opted for a nude dress with sheer layering and no shortage of embellishment and bedazzling. The sequined Valentino number cost a whopping $20,500! She topped the unconventional look off with a bold star headband and pulled her hair back into a low braid.
8. Kristen Bell
Kristen Bell married her current husband Dax Shephard back in 2013 in the most low key way possible — at a courthouse! The details of their wedding remained vague for years, but Bell recently posted photos to social media that gave insight into the day which featured Bell skipping the dress completely and instead opting for a practical black top and trouser combo. Luckily, she added a little bridal bling with a large statement necklace while holding two individual flowers instead of a lavish bouquet.
7. Solange Knowles
Rumor has it that Solange Knowles wore an incredible six outfits throughout the entirety of her wedding back in 2014! Her family took incredible photos, but there was one of Solange’s dress that broke wedding expectations and took the nontraditional route. Although the Humberto Leon-designed dress was classic white, she channeled her inner Grecian Goddess with gold cuff details around her wrist and a long draping cape over her shoulders instead of a veil!
6. Shenae Grimes
Although Shenae Grimes played the innocent Annie Wilson on 90210, her real life personality proves to be much different based on her wedding dress selection! The actress channeled her inner dark side and rocked this black tulle gown from Vera Wang’s 2012 Fall collection. The V-neck halter dress featured a lace bodice, distressed organza and a crinkled tulle skirt. Her dark locks were pulled into a voluminous updo which showed off her shoulders and the flattering neckline.
5. Amber Tamblyn
Not only did Amber Tamblyn break down expectations with her marigold-colored wedding dress, but she also broke them by not wearing any shoes on the day of her wedding! She commented that the bright hued gown featured a cream train and when asked why she selected this color Tamblyn admitted, “There’s nothing really traditional about me.” We love the red-haired beauty’s attitude and definitely approve of the sunshine-themed wedding!
4. Cynthia Nixon
Cynthia Nixon broke boundaries when she married Christine Marinoni in 2012 and rocked a green dress rather than a traditional white ballgown! The star has opened up about her decision to wear this particular dress and revealed, “Maybe it was also years of playing red-headed Miranda: Even though in real life my hair is blond, green has become my go-to. And this particular shade — so light it borders on yellow — was especially apt, since it’s the color of early spring, and no matter how long you’ve been together, a wedding is a certain kind of beginning.”
3. Kaley Cuoco
Blonde beauty Kaley Cuoco rocked a Barbie pink wedding dress when she married Ryan Sweeting back on New Year’s Eve in 2013! The romantic gown was as girly as it gets and we can definitely assume Cuoco made a “big bang” when she walked down the aisle in this eye-catching number!
2. Jessica Biel
It seems Kaley Cuoco wasn’t the first celebrity bride to rock the petal-pink shade based on Jessica Biel’s wedding dress from 2012! Biel rocked a pink and white Giambattista Valli dress with a princess-inspired silhouette when she married Justin Timberlake in an Italian ceremony. The whimsical dress looked like something straight out of a fairy tale and was dramatic but still played off the traditional ballroom-style cut.
1. Whitney Port
Fashionista Whitney Port was all about the glamour and drama with her unique high-low style wedding dress! It’s no surprise this fashion-forward lady put her own twist on the classic princess dress in a custom Ashi Studio design.
