Fame10 Fashion Evolution: Kate Hudson

Published on May 29, 2014. Updated April 4, 2017

Kate Hudson rose to fame over a decade ago when she caught everyone’s attention in the movie “Almost Famous” as groupie Penny Lane. She seemed to have it all – acting abilities, beauty and an impeccable sense of style. Since her early days on the red carpet, Hudson’s style has definitely evolved. She has gone from free-spirited and boho-chic to classy and sophisticated – see for yourself!

Golden Globe Awards – 2003

Kate Hudson looked every bit the free spirit in this multi-print Valentino gown at the 2003 Golden Globe Awards. The gown suits the Oscar-nominated actress perfectly with its vibrant colors, retro pattern and free-flowing cut. Hudson seems to have been aware that dress was a perfect fit for her. She told People magazine, “It suits my personality. It’s very bohemian, like me.” We couldn’t agree more!

The Skeleton Key Premiere – 2005

The Golden Globe-winning actress proved that she is one of the most confident women in the business at “The Skeleton Key” premiere. She wore this low-cut, sheer paneled Atelier Versace gown, which left nothing to the imagination. While some women may have felt uncomfortable showing this much skin, Hudson couldn’t have cared less. “I was walking out of the house and realized the dress was see-through. I said, ‘You Know what? I feel fine,’” she said.

You, Me and Dupree Premiere – 2006

At the “You, Me and Dupree” premiere, Kate Hudson shimmered in this sequin Diane von Furstenberg wrap-dress. During filming, the Oscar-nominated actress reportedly had an affair with her co-star Owen Wilson, which broke up her marriage to Chris Robinson. While Hudson and Wilson went on to date, their breakup – and her subsequent hookup with Dax Shepard – is rumored to be the reason why the comedian attempted suicide back in 2007.

Movies Rock: A Celebration of Music in Film – 2007

The “Almost Famous” star kept it simple in this strapless Dolce & Gabbana minidress from the Spring 2008 collection. She accessorized with opaque tights, black satin pumps and a bright red envelope clutch. Even though things were over with Owen Wilson at this point, Hudson had nothing but positive things to say about her former lover. “Owen is such a lovely person, and I love him dearly. And I wish him beautiful things – health and everything that he desires in life,” Hudson told Vogue.

44th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards – 2008

Kate  opted for a more bohemian look at the 44th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. She wore this pink strapless Balmain Spring 2008 floral gown with beaded details and accessorized with Cartier jewels. This Balmain dress is definitely reminiscent of the free-flowing Valentino she wore to the 2003 Golden Globe Awards; however, the Valentino, with its bold colors, was a much nicer dress.

New York Premiere of Bride Wars – 2009

The Academy Award-nomianted actress wore this black and white geometric patterned strapless mermaid gown with a peplum at the waist from the Oscar de la Renta Spring 2009 collection to the New York Premiere of “Bride Wars.” Even though the film was universally panned by critics, receiving a 10% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and being selected by Time as one of the top 10 worst chick flicks, we think this is a winning look on Hudson.

Kate Hudson looked stunning at the opening ceremony for “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” premiere during the 69th Venice Film Festival. She looked every bit the A list star in this nude crystal-embellished Atelier Versace gown, which donned a thin shoulder strap and sheer cut outs that accentuated her svelte figure. “The Skeleton Key” star looked exquisite at the amfAR Inspiration Gala in this red Prabal Gurung Resort gown. The dress featured a plunging V-neck and sculptural cut-out details at the shoulders and she accessorized with a gold necklace and a black-and-gold studded clutch. Even though her career had more or less stagnated at this point, Hudson definitely gets points for her amazing sense of fashion. With each event, she looks more and more stunning.

Clear History Premiere – 2013

Kate Hudson looked incredibly stylish when she showed up at the premiere for her HBO film “Clear History.” She flaunted her toned legs in this denim, patchwork-printed Balmain Resort 2014 minidress with floral applique and silver chain embellishments. Lucky for Hudson, critics were far more impressed with this film than many of her others. Looks like the film – and Hudson’s red carpet look – ended up being a success.
