Alex Trebek’s Final Jeopardy! Episode Will Air On Christmas Day

A date has been announced for Alex Trebek’s final Jeopardy! episode to air.

Trebek, who has hosted the popular ABC game show since its debut in 1984, passed on Sunday, which marked just over a year after he was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.

Sony Pictures Television announced that new episodes of Jeopardy! featuring Trebek as the host will continue to December with his final episode airing on December 25th, Christmas Day. Trebek’s final day filming in the studio was Oct. 29 which was just 10 days before his death. Future plans for the show have yet to be announced.

The longtime host’s death was confirmed by the official Jeopardy! Twitter account on Sunday. “Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. Thank you, Alex.”

“Today we lost a legend and a beloved member of the Sony Pictures family,” Sony Pictures Television added in a separate statement. “For 37 amazing years, Alex Trebek was that comforting voice, that moment of escape and entertainment at the end of a long, hard day for millions of people around the world.”

“This is an enormous loss for the Jeopardy! staff, crew and all of Alex’s millions of fans. He was a legend of the industry that we were all lucky to watch night after night for 37 years,” Jeopardy executive producer Mike Richards said in a statement.

“Working beside him for the past year and a half as he heroically continued to host Jeopardy! was an incredible honor. His belief in the importance of the show and his willingness to push himself to perform at the highest level was the most inspiring demonstration of courage I have ever seen,” Richards added. “His constant desire to learn, his kindness, and his professionalism will be with all of us forever.”
