Amy Adams Cut From Today Show Over Sony Hack
Published on December 23, 2014.Celebrated actress Amy Adams, 40, was scheduled to appear on the Today show this week in order to promote her newest Tim Burton directed film, Big Eyes, but NBC canceled her spot after she stood her ground on a certain matter.
The Sony hacking scandal has become a major entertainment news story and shows no signs of slowing down but when Adams was told she would be asked about the issue, she refused to answer any questions and they consequently pulled her entire interview.
“Amy’s segment was pulled very suddenly after she expressed that she’d rather not discuss the Sony hack. She was not aggressive or freaking out…It is unfortunate. Amy didn’t do anything wrong and they pulled the interview,” a source told Us Weekly.
A rep for the Today show also commented about the situation stating, “As a news program, the Today show doesn’t allow guests to put restrictions on interviews. In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made, and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview.”
Since the spot was supposed to be in promotion of the film that The Weinstein Company is distributing, they also issued a statement in full support of the actress being firm on the matter.
“We firmly stand behind Amy Adams. We’ve been lucky enough to have had her talents grace several of our films. We are certain her fellow actors and directors would all agree, she is nothing but the consummate professional both on and off the set. Amy decided to speak up for herself and express her disappointment that Today would feel the need to ask her a question she did not feel comfortable, and rather than respect her opinion or continue the discussion, the reaction was to pull her appearance from the show.”
