Creed’s Scott Stapp Reveals Bipolar Diagnosis

Back in November of 2014, Creed frontman Scott Stapp, 41, made headlines after seemingly having a breakdown during which time he posted a 15 minute video to his Facebook stating that he was “under some kind of vicious attack” and was the victim of an elaborate “financial theft” that left him broke, homeless and starving.

The video left many wondering about his state of mind and sobriety and now months later in an interview with People magazine, Stapp has a reason for his strange behavior, revealing he has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

“I’m lucky to be alive,” he began, after last year’s chaotic events. “I had a psychotic break that was brought on by alcohol and drug abuse. I was hallucinating. I drove around the United States for a month, following an angel that I saw on the hood of my car.”

He went on to also explain that his “delusional thinking” made him believe his family was with ISIS and that they took his money to support terrorism, “All of it was nonsense. I was out of my mind,” he added.

After things got completely out of control, Stapp entered into treatment where he received his diagnosis, and while his wife Jaclyn said it “made sense” Stapp at first didn’t want to believe it. “It was hard to process. There’s a stigma associated with it. But Jaclyn kept telling me, ‘Embrace it. We love you.’ It became a big sign of relief, because finally, we had an answer.”

Stapp is still on the road to recovery and is intensive therapy, working through a 12-step program and has medication for his bipolar disorder. “Nothing is more important than my sobriety,” he said of his life right now.
