Dancing With the Stars season 27 is only in its second week, but the stars are in midseason form!

All three judges commented on how incredible this season’s cast is and how amazing the dances already are for only week two, and New York Night more than proved that. The opening number got everyone in a New York state of mind with some incredible props and and a guest appearance from the New York City Ballet principal dancer Tiler Peck, and the dances just continued to keep the high energy and wow absolutely everyone. If you missed New York Night on Dancing With the Stars, you missed out, but here is a full recap!

After some truly stunning dances, that looked liked they really could have been Broadway productions, there was a three-way tie for first place on the leader’s board! Tinashe and Brandon Armstrong landed the first 26 out of 30 of the night with an Argentine Tango to “New Dorp. New York” by SBTRKT. ft. Ezra Koenig. The pair took a risk with their lifts and a very modern interpretation of an Argentine Tango transported to a New York City nightclub, but it paid off with the judges praising the entire thing. Immediately after them was a dance that Carrie Ann Inaba said the judges would remember forever from Milo Manheim and Witney Carson who danced a Charleston to “Living in New York City” by Robin Thicke. The entire thing looked so incredibly professional that Manheim very well could have passed for one of the pro dancers. Despite being nearly perfect, the two also only earned a 26 out of 30. The third score of 26 came with Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke who danced a Quickstep to “42nd Street” by Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. Despite some criticism about his ballroom frame, the judges couldn’t help but be impressed landing the duo in the top three.

Coming just shy of the leaderboard were Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten who danced an Argentine Tango to “Swan Lake” by Ray Chew Live. Although the judges admitted to being apprehensive at first, they loved how the dance came together and gave the pair a final score of 25 out of 30. Two more stars fell one point behind with 24 out of 30 with DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold who opened the night with a Foxtrot by “Boy From New York City” by The Manhattan Transfer, and Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe who danced a Samba to “Can’t Touch It” by Ricki-Lee.

Falling to the middle of the pack, but still with some incredible dances were John Schneider and Emma Slater who scored a 23 out of 30 for their Charleston to “New York’s My Home.” Mary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber earned a 22 for their Waltz to “Natural Woman.” Nancy McKeon and Val Chmerkovskiy scored a 21 out of 30 for their Cha Cha to “Uptown Girl” by Billy Joel.

Those who fell to the bottom of the leaderboard were Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess who were given a 20 out of 30 for their Foxtrot to “Theme from New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra even though Bones went off script from the choreography at the end and confused everyone. Danelle Umstead poured her heart into her Cha Cha to “Welcome to New York” by Taylor Swift yet she and Artem only earned an 18 out of 30. Lastly, Joe Amabile was greatly improved from last week with his Foxtrot to “New York State of Mind” by Matt Beilis yet he and Jenna Johnson still received the lowest score with 17 out of 30.

With all the effort being put in, it is going to be devastating for whoever is sent home following Nikki Glaser’s week one elimination. Find out who is eliminated Tuesday, October 2 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
