Drew Barrymore has had a dramatic stay in Hollywood after growing up in the spotlight following a childhood career that all began in 1982’s E.T the Extra-Terrestrial when she was only 7 years old.

Now at 40-years old Barrymore, who is still acting, is opening up about her entire life which saw her going to rehab as a teenager and having an unstable relationship with her parents, as she is releasing a set of autobiographical essays about her life.

Barrymore signed a deal with Dutton publishers and while her past was a difficult one, she says the book will not be a dark memoir, “I love stories that are humorous, emotional and welcoming, and that is my goal in writing this book.”

While the collection is still untitled, a release gave a brief glimpse of what readers can expect, “[It] will include stories about living on her own at 14 (and how laundry may have saved her life), getting stuck in a gas station overhang on a cross-country road trip, saying goodbye to her father in a way only he could have understood, and many more adventures and lessons that lave led to the most important thing in her life, which is motherhood.”

Dutton publisher Ben Sevier also released a statement about having Drew Barrymore as one of their writers, “We are thrilled to welcome Drew Barrymore, a true American icon, to the Dutton list, and can’t wait to help bring her wonderful writing to the world.”
