On Sunday, Sept. 20, TV’s biggest stars came together for the biggest night in television. The 67th annual edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards were held live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and there was some tough competition.

HBO’s smash hit Game of Thrones came away with the win for Outstanding Drama Series, beating out Mad Men‘s final season. The wins didn’t end there however, as Game of Thrones also came away with Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series that went to Peter Dinklage who plays Tyrion Lannister, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series with the episode “Mother’s Mercy” directed by David Nutter, and David Benioff and David Weiss also came away with the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series again for the episode “Mother’s Mercy.”

While Veep won for Outstanding Comedy Series, it was also a big night for Jon Hamm who after a rocky year which included a trip to rehab and a breakup with girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt, the Mad Men actor finally took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series after being nominated seven times previously.

“It’s impossible to be named with all of those extraordinary gentleman. It’s impossible to be standing up here. It’s impossible to have done this show with this incredible cast,” Hamm stated while accepting his award but not before joking. “There’s been a terrible mistake, clearly.”
