Game Of Thrones Likely To End After Season 8 HBO Says

Forget winter is coming, the end is coming it seems sooner rather than later for HBO’s massive hit show, Game of Thrones.
On Thursday, July 30, HBO’s president of programming Michael Lombardo addressed questions about when the series might come to an end now that the show has caught up to George R.R. Martin’s novels and, while it is most likely lasting longer than the originally predicted seven seasons, it seems it won’t be around much longer.
“I think ‘seven seasons and out’ has never been the conversation. The question is how much beyond the seventh season we’re going to do. Obviously we’re shooting six now and hopefully discussing seven. They’re feeling like they’re probably two more years after six. I’ve said before, I would always love for them to change their minds but that’s what we’re looking at right now,” Lombardo said of the future of the show.
While the end of the series is not something fans want to hear, there was a bright glimmer of hope when Lombardo stated he is “open” to doing a prequel series set in the Game of Thrones world: “It really depends fully for us on what [the showrunners] want to do.”
Of course, he was also asked about the huge season five final shocker — the death of Jon Snow and if it was real, to which he replied, “Dead is dead is dead is dead. He be dead. Yes. Everything I’ve seen, heard or read, Jon Snow is dead.”
While that was an unfortunately final answer, we refuse to believe it until season six premieres next year.
