At only 34 years old one of the world’s most iconic supermodels, Gisele Bundchen has announced that she is retiring from the runway.

The model confirmed the news in an Instagram post showing a picture from her first ever runway show with the message: “I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business. #firstrunway #14yearsold.”

Her debut at 14 was during New York Fashion Week while today she is walking for Colcci in Brazil for Sao Paulo Fashion Week and has been the highest paid model in the world since 2002, raking in $61 million in the last year alone.

Over the weekend, Bundchen told Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper, “Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop. I respect my body, it’s a privilege to be able to stop.”

She also added, “I don’t see how to continue (modelling on the catwalk) and stopping will leave room for other projects I have for myself.”

As well as her “other projects” she will continue to model for print, as well as focus on her family with husband NFL star Tom Brady and their two children Benjamin and Vivian.
