Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck And Jennifer Lawrence
Published on January 14, 2015.Before settling down for the better part of ten years with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, actress Gwyneth Paltrow, 42, was making a habit of dating some of Hollywood’s hottest actors.
In an interview on Wednesday January 14 on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show, she revisited her dating past and even explained some things about her relationships and break-ups with the likes of Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck.
Paltrow and Pitt first met on the set of the 1995 film Seven and were together for three years from 1994-1997, a time that even included an engagement between the two A-listers.
“I definitely fell in love with him. He was so gorgeous and sweet. I mean, he was Brad Pitt!,” she gushed of her ex. Looking back, she definitely blames herself for hurting Pitt by calling off the engagement, “I was 22 when we met. It’s taken me until 40 to get my head out of my ass. You can’t make that decision when you’re 22 years old…I wasn’t ready, and he was too good for me. I didn’t know what I was doing.”
After Pitt, the young Paltrow moved on to Ben Affleck from 1997 to late 2000, but this time she puts the onus on Affleck for the relationship not lasting.”He was not in a good place to have a girlfriend,” she stated of her time with the now 42 year old star.
Paltrow also explained she definitely got swayed by the good looks of both Pitt and Affleck, “I think that when you’re in your twenties, you can get swept up in [good looks]. When you’re a kid, you tend to be more shallow and you’re also immature, so you think that being with a good looking person validates yourself in some kind of way. It’s not true.”
Even though she was focussing on her past, Paltrow also touched upon her recent split from husband Chris Martin when they announced they were “consciously uncoupling”, finally admitting the term was a silly one. “I made a mistake. I didn’t give it context. But it is a goofy term,” she told Stern.
Since their separation Martin has moved on with 24 year old megastar Jennifer Lawrence and while the two never confirmed their relationship, break up or reconciliation Paltrow hinted the two are in fact together again. “Who says I don’t approve of Jennifer Lawrence? I respect him as the father of my children…It’s his decision…He wouldn’t be with someone who isn’t great.”
