A deadly crash occurred on Saturday, Dec. 12 when a Bell 206 helicopter hired by MTV for work on the reality series, The Challenge, crashed over water in Argentina, killing two. The helicopter was subcontracted by both MTV and BUnim/Murray Productions and apparently went down while heading to a filming location for The Challenge in Mendoza.

MTV released a short statement following the crash telling the location of the crash and adding, “The thoughts and prayers of all at MTV and Bunim/Murray are with those who lost their lives in this tragedy and their families during this difficult time.” The names of the victims nor the cause of the crash has been released, however it has been stated that no Challenge cast or crew were on board and an investigation remains ongoing.

The helicopter crashed at the Potrerillos Dam in west Argentina, a government official stated. The current season of The Challenge, Battle of the Bloodlines was filmed earlier this year in Turkey, while The Challenge: Rivals III was the cast that was filming in Argentina during the crash.

Earlier this year another helicopter crash associated with a reality show occurred in Argentina when two helicopters collided while carrying the cast and crew of the survival reality show Dropped. Ten people were killed, including three famous French sports stars.
