‘Hocus Pocus’ Follow-Up Film In The Works For Disney+
Published on October 24, 2019.Oh look. Another glorious morning…with an exciting announcement!
The Sanderson Sisters are on their way back because it has been confirmed that an official follow-up to the 1993 Halloween favorite Hocus Pocus is now in the works for Disney’s highly-anticipated streaming service Disney+.
The original film starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as three sister witches who are accidentally resurrected on Halloween and resume their life-work of sucking the life out of the town’s children to undo a curse that got rid of them 300 years previously.
While many reports have confirmed that the movie is in the works, Disney has yet to make an official statement, and so it is not known the premise of the film or if the original stars will be taking part.
Two years ago in the Fall of 2017 it was reported that a remake of Hocus Pocus was in the works at the Disney Channel.
At the time, Mick Garris, who was one of the film’s original screen writers, hinted the potential for a remake in an interview. “Generation after generation, it’s kind of remarkable and fantastic to have something brought to the screen like that and to have it embraced generation after generation. Everybody I meet, it’s either their daughters or their own favorite movie and it’s incredibly exciting,” he explained.
“There have been rumors of a Hocus Pocus sequel for the last 10 years that will not die. I have heard they are developing the script, I haven’t been involved in it but I think there will be a sequel it might be for Disney Channel or Freeform or ABC. I think it will be for television but I hear that it is moving ahead.”
It looks like this news is much more than just rumors however as Jen D’Angelo has already been tapped to write the new Hocus Pocus film.
Disney+ is launching on November 12 and has an extensive and incredible list of content including everything owned under the Disney name which includes not only the Disney classics but also all Marvel and Stars Wars films. In addition, the streaming service has a lot of original content planned as well. Plans for the new service were first announced in April. Disney+ will cost $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year, and can be bundled with Hulu and ESPN+ subscriptions for $12.99 per month.
