The 1993 cult classic Halloween film Hocus Pocus is in the early stages of a remake on Disney Channel according to Us Weekly!

The original Disney film followed teenager Max Dennison who moves to Salem, Massachusetts and explores an abandon house that is supposedly haunted. Max originally dismisses the story that the house is haunted but realizes the rumors are true when she accidentally releases a coven of witches. The Sanderson sisters are three wicked yet amicable witches who were played by actresses Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Deadline first reported that the rebooted Hocus Pocus will be written by Scarlet Lacey (The Royals) with David Kirschner, the producer on the original movie. Kenny Ortega, who is infamous for many successful Disney franchises including High School Musical, directed the original Hocus Pocus film but will allegedly not be involved in the remake.

On Tuesday September 26, Mick Garris, who was one of the film’s original screen writers, hinted the potential for a remake in an interview. “Generation after generation, it’s kind of remarkable and fantastic to have something brought to the screen like that and to have it embraced generation after generation. Everybody I meet, it’s either their daughters or their own favorite movie and it’s incredibly exciting,” he explained.

“There have been rumors of a Hocus Pocus sequel for the last 10 years that will not die. I have heard they are developing the script, I haven’t been involved in it but I think there will be a sequel it might be for Disney Channel or Freeform or ABC. I think it will be for television but I hear that it is moving ahead.”
