Mad Men star Jon Hamm will be starring in a Fletch reboot at Miramax!

Hamm will reportedly produce and play the titular role in a reboot of the classic 1980s franchise with Greg Mottola (Superbad) slated to direct. Zev Borow (Chuck) will reportedly write the screenplay.

The original film, which was based on author Gregory Mcdonald’s series of mystery novels, starred Chevy Chase as investigative reporter Irwin M. “Fletch” Fletcher. The original film debuted in 1985 and was a commercial success, so a sequel, Fletch Lives, followed in 1989.

The new film will reportedly be based on the second book in Mcdonald’s series, Confess, Fletch, and will follow the character as he becomes the major suspect in a murder investigation. The film will follow Fletch as he attempts to prove his innocence while also tracking down his fiancée’s stolen art collection, which she has inherited after her father is presumed dead.

“We could not be more thrilled to see what 21st-century twist these artists create,” Miramax CEO Bill Block said in a statement.

A Fletch reboot has been something that many production companies have attempted in the past with names such as Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, Zach Braff, and Jason Sudeikis, among others, all attached to the project.
