Joss Whedon Is Out As Director Of The Next ‘Avengers’ Films

Published on March 24, 2015.

Why mess with a good thing? Why? It actually isn’t clear why, but many sources have confirmed that Joss Whedon who brought us the hugely successful first Avengers film and is behind the highly anticipated second film due out in May, will not be at the helm of the franchises third and fourth films.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 will be directed by the Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, who are already a huge part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and are are also directing Captain America: Civil War.

Although it seems strange that Whedon would not continue on with the Superhero group after the first film became the third-highest-grossing movie of all time, he admitted that directing the second film was one of the hardest things he’s ever done.

“Shoot me in the face! It is a nightmare. I long for the simple movies like Serenity! This is the hardest juggling act I have ever, ever tried to pull off,” he told SFX magazine.

At least the Russo brothers know what they have on their plate for the next four years as Captain America: Civil War is in preproduction and is scheduled for a May 6, 2016.

Meanwhile filming for both Avengers: Infinity War segments are set to be done back to back beginning next year with release dates aimed for May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019.
