As with all major award shows there are going to be huge snubs and big surprises when all the nominees are finally announced but there is something very common to the snubs of this year’s 2015 Oscar nominations that has left many outraged.

The 87th Annual Academy Awards will be presented on February 22 and early on Thursday (Jan. 15) all nominees across all 24 categories were announced and immediately there was buzz over snubs such as Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and Jennifer Aniston with Cake, however the most noticeable absence from all nominations is diversity.

All 20 nominees across the acting categories are white, something that happened in 2011 and before that not since 1998, and people are very angry.

One of the most obvious snubs was David Oyelowo for Best Actor as he portrays Martin Luther King Jr. in the biopic Selma, and even though the film is up for Best Picture Oyelowo is absent from his category as is the film’s director Ava DuVernay who would have been the first black woman to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Director.

Many have taken to Twitter to display their displeasure of the nominations such as CNN anchor David Daniel who Tweeted, “#OscarNoms No female directors, screenwriters, or cinematographers. No actors of color. #diversity.” As well the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite is also taking off with users posting things such as, “#OscarsSoWhite red carpet will be replaced by a white carpet.”

The Oscars will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
