Lauren Graham Cast As Lead In ‘The Mighty Ducks’ New TV Show For Disney+

Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham has been cast as the lead in the new Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks, which is based on the iconic film trilogy from the ’90s. Alongside Graham, Good Boys star Brady Noon will join the 10-episode series.

The official description for the new Mighty Ducks reads, “In present day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports.”

As reported by Variety, “The series hails from ABC Signature Studios and has Steve Brill, who created the original franchise, on board as co-creator and executive producer. Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa are also co-creators and are set to showrun.” Graham will also serve as a co-creator and executive producer for the new series.

The outlet also wrote, “James Griffiths and Michael Spiller will serve as executive producers on The Mighty Ducks with Griffiths directing. George Heller and Brad Petrigala of Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Jordan Kerner also serve as non-writing executive producers.”

The original Mighty Ducks premiered in 1992 and starred Emilio Estevez as Gordon Bombay, an arrogant lawyer whose community service for a DUI is to coach a local youth hockey team. The trilogy helped launch Hollywood careers for Joshua Jackson, Kenan Thompson, and Jussie Smollett, and served as an inspiration for the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks name.

The Mighty Ducks TV series will be filmed in Vancouver and is set to debut later this year on the streaming service.
