Lorde Slams Photoshop, Says Flaws are OK
Published on April 2, 2014. Updated October 15, 2014Lorde always looks stylish — but she wants her fans to know that she doesn’t look perfect in real life.
Sharing two photos from her performance at Lollapalooza in Santiago, Chile, the 17 year-old wrote on Twitter, “i find this curious – two photos from today, one edited so my skin is perfect and one real. remember flaws are ok :-)”
In the Photoshopped version of the photo, Lorde’s skin looks absolutely flawless — but in the real one, you can see that she has some blemishes, just like everyone else. Check out the video to see the surprising side-by-side comparison1
It’s pretty cool that the young pop star feels comfortable sharing the photo and getting real with her 1.37 million Twitter followers. She does it because as a fan of other artists herself, she knows what it’s like to feel like you’ll never live up to standards of pop star perfection.
“There’s a lot of importance placed on physical perfection in this industry, and I wish my favourite stars didn’t look perfect because I think fans (me included) have these feelings of worthlessness,” she once said in an interview. “:ike they’ll never be as pretty/talented/whatever, as a result of this intense photoshop culture and the endless strive for perfection.”
We’re glad she’s taking a stand against impossible beauty standards!
