Only a few days after their engagement was announced, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are taking on their first duties as a Royal couple.
As previously announced earlier in the week, Markle and Harry visited Nottingham, about 125 miles north of London, on the morning of Friday, December 1, and were greeted by many enthusiastic fans hoping to get a hand shake from the newest Royal couple.
Markle stepped right up to the responsibilities as she greeted fans, stopped and spoke to many, and gave many warm smiles as Harry did the same to the crowd opposite. One bold fan even asked the Prince what it was like for him to be with someone like Meghan “as a ginger.” Harry took it in stride however as he answered, “It’s great isn’t it… unbelievable!”
The two were at the Nottingham Contemporary, an art center hosting a celebration for World AIDS Day, which is a cause very close to Harry’s heart and was also extremely important to his mother Princess Diana.
In a press briefing via the prince’s communication secretary, Jason Knauf, it was said Harry was looking forward to introducing his fiancee to a community that has become so important to him while Markle herself “cannot wait to meet many of the young people Prince Harry has told her so much about.”
The briefing also said Meghan would be shifting from her longtime charity and moving toward partnering with Harry’s philanthropic initiatives. “Ms. Markle is incredibly grateful for the opportunities that she has had with World Vision Canada and U.N. Women,” Jason said. “Through those organizations, she has been able to meet incredible smaller organizations around the world—but she has made the decision that she wants to start a clean slate and focus on the U.K. and getting to know this country and traveling around the Commonwealth.”
