‘Mission: Impossible 7’ Halts Production In Italy Over Coronavirus Outbreak

Published on February 25, 2020.

Mission: Impossible 7 production has halted production in Venice, Italy, after a number of people in the country have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

The movie was set to film in the city for three weeks, but an increase in the number of people affected with the virus across the northern part of Italy has caused Paramount Pictures to pause the film’s production. Cruise was not in Italy at the time of production.

Paramount Pictures released a statement, saying, “Out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of our cast and crew, and efforts of the local Venetian government to halt public gatherings in response to the threat of coronavirus, we are altering the production plan for our three week shoot in Venice, the scheduled first leg of an extensive production for Mission: Impossible 7.”

The statement added: “During this hiatus, we want to be mindful of the concerns of the crew and are allowing them to return home until production starts. We will continue to monitor this situation, and work alongside health and government officials as it evolves.”

Roughly 229 people are reportedly infected with the coronavirus in Italy and six people have passed away as a result, NBC News reported. In the Veneto Region, authorities have closed schools and museums, and also canceled the floating city’s famous Venice Carnival.

Likewise, in China, where the coronavirus originated, the government has put an indefinite halt on all film production in the country.

Mission: Impossible 7 is planned to debut in theaters on July 23, 2021; it is not known at this time if the delay will affect the movie’s premiere date.
